Appalachian Rock Climbing Adult Renewal

Reconnect with yourself and nature through the challenge of backpacking and rock climbing through some of the oldest mountain in the world. Adult Renewal courses are perfect for those individuals who find themselves at a transition point in their lives or who are just feeling a hunger for insight. Current research shows that time spent in nature has positive impacts and this course is designed to maximize the benefits of our natural surroundings.

Course Description

In addition to experiencing an amazing part of the country, this rock climbing focused course teaches participants to tie knots, belay, and move over rock. Participants will develop confidence, teamwork and leadership skills while working together with their group to meet daily backpacking goals, setting-up camp, navigating and cooking excellent backcountry meals.

While the hard skills may seem difficult, the true challenge and triumph will come from what is discovered or re-discovered in oneself after four days in the wilderness. Instructors will facilitate sharing of life experiences amongst the group and craft course activities in ways that offer you opportunities to examine where you have been, where you are now and where you would like to go in life.

Course Area

The Southern Appalachians, which includes the Blue Ridge Mountains, are some of the oldest mountains in the world. The range is mostly located in the Unites States, but extends into southeastern Canada too. The birthplace of North Carolina Outward Bound School is in the Southern Appalachians of North Carolina where the highest mountains of the range reside, the highest being Mount Mitchell at 6,684 feet (2,037 m). These mountain’s, rocky craggs and granite outcroppings provide exceptional climbing opportunities.

*This course will begin and end at the Asheville Regional Airport in North Carolina.
