This is a backcountry trekking and service based course in the Andes of Ecuador.
This course begins in the countryside of Ecuador, outside of Quito, for a day of acclimatization and service. You will spend a day giving your work to the community while learning about the culture that surrounds you and practicing your Spanish.
After service, you will head into the high country of the Andes. Here you will learn about backcountry expedition techniques including leadership skills, teamwork, navigation, and backcountry living skills. You and your new team will put these skills to the test while learning about each other, as well as yourselves. Even though you will be hiking at altitudes greater than the tallest peaks in the continental United States, Ecuador’s giant, snow capped peaks will still loom above you. Each night you will move camp, getting more and more familiar with your new, backcountry lifestyle. After a final trek through a remote cloud forest you will have a chance to finish your course in natural hot springs while looking up at the mountains you have come to know so well.
