Omaha Center Project Manager

Summary
The Project Manager has the unique opportunity to lead the establishment of a new Outward Bound Center in Omaha, Nebraska. This Center is building on the success of Outward Bound’s Urban Centers and is expected to soon become a high-profile youth development organization serving more than 3,000 students annually within five years with the intention of having a lasting impact on participants’ lives and the culture of organizational partners. 
The Project Manager is responsible for the initial development of Center courses, developing program partnerships, securing appropriate facilities/venues and helping to engage the participation of schools and youth serving organizations and sharing the mission of Outward Bound with the community. As additional resources are added over time, responsibilities will be transferred to more specific Center roles.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

* Build upon existing Center curricula and course structures and adapt them to best support the needs of the local community to achieve a “continuous contact model” for lasting character development in participating students and long-term cultural change in participating schools and youth serving organizations.
* Develop short and long-term plans for Center venues including identification and vetting of appropriate park, wilderness and urban venues, including the development of a new urban ropes course.
* Establish partnerships with local youth serving agencies and community partners that can add capabilities and experiences to enrich Center courses with limited incremental cost.
* Build strong relationships with local school districts, schools and youth-serving organizations and recruit them to participate in programs.  Develop course plans and progressions that meet their specific needs and resources. Utilize the community assessment and existing relationships with champions and supporters.
* Build lasting relationships with key government, education, philanthropic and business leaders.
* Refine and fully develop the one, two and three year plan for Center programs and finances. This should include working with local champions and OBUSA to determine Center objectives and the timeline for various program implementations.
* Execute public events, alumni events, service days and other activities in an effort to spread the word and gain community support.
* Recruit and train local instructors utilizing Outward Bound standards.  Provide leadership, motivation and direction to instructors to inspire them to teach effective and well run courses.
* Lead initial courses and manage logistics as needed.  Plan itineraries and logistics and provide appropriate support to courses in the field. 
* Ensure that all courses are high quality, run professionally and in accordance with Outward Bound National Safety Policies and Standards.
* Support fundraising efforts and work collaboratively with local fundraising leadership on donor visits, proposal review and general donor cultivation. 
* Support planning for annual budget by preparing course plans and financial requirements to meet Center’s objectives.
* Create and implement strategy for measuring impact of programs using the Outward Bound Outcomes Instrument. 
* During the startup phase, support the Center with additional administrative and operational duties as required.

Knowledge and Skills
* Passion for the Outward Bound mission.
* Strong interpersonal communication and people management skills including persuasion and motivation.
* Knowledge and experience building government and community relations and partnerships with other key organizations.
* Computer literate (Microsoft Windows & Office suite, Wikis, Facebook & Twitter, donor software and other specific databases as needed).
* Must have the ability to work in a collaborative environment with OB staff and local champions and supporters.
* Ability to communicate the Outward Bound mission effectively to gain support from the community and donors.
* A proven ability to perform under tight deadlines and meet strict financial goals.
 

Education and Work Experience
* Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum 3 years experiential learning experience.
* Experience working with diverse student populations including but not limited to middle and high school youth, educators and corporate leaders.
* Outward Bound experience strongly preferred.
