Positions
Most opportunities within Outward Bound can be described in three categories - Administrative, Instructors and Support. Field staff located at our programs locations are Instructors and Support. Most of the positions available in our offices are Administrative. Here are some more details on each group:
Instructors are the majority of positions hired for Outward Bound. These are the staff working in the field directly with students - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Staff who are offered a position are required to attend New Staff Training at their designated program and expected to work a certain number of days in the season.
Support staff are the backbone of our operation; we could not deliver courses without them. Logistics staff work to insure that everything runs smoothly with the food, gear and transportation of a course in the field. Interns are in a training role and assist with a variety of tasks at the program level including: logistics, technical (rock climbing, ropes course, etc) support, evacuations, office work and many other things that arise at the program level. In most instances, interns also have an opportunity to spend some time in the field "shadowing" a course. In a few locations, we also hire Cooks for our busy summer programs.
Administrative positions are as varied as the locations we serve. In our primary business offices in Golden, CO and NY, we employ a large number of office staff. Finance, Human Resources, IT, and Advancement are just a few of the departments that have positions available from time to time. In addition, we hire a large number of seasonal employees in our CO office each spring to assist with enrolling students on to courses.
