Alabama Gulf Coast Sea Kayaking - Veterans

Join Outward Bound and other OEF and OIF veterans for an adventure that takes you via sea kayak through uninhabited barrier islands and the white sandy beaches of Alabama’s Gulf Coast. 

Course Area
Alabama’s Gulf Coast offers a flavorful gumbo of untamed wilderness, marine science, American history, white sandy beaches and fishing villages, the waters and lands of the Gulf Coast and barrier islands include marshlands, rivers, creeks, saltwater estuaries, and beaches that join together from both land and sea.

Course Description
Your kayak trip will depart from Weeks Bay National Estuarium, where you will have the opportunity to learn about the Gulf Coast's fragile ecosystems. Your itinerary will include a paddle along the shore of Mobile Bay to the Bon Secour fishing village. Your crew will purchase fresh seafood from the dock to cook along the way. The next few days will be spent paddling through the Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge featuring pristine bayous, marsh shorelines and pine savannas. Along your route to historic Fort Morgan, you will pass the lost colony of Pilot Town. At Fort Morgan, you will get to tour the Civil War era fort, camp on the beach and swim in the Gulf of Mexico. If weather permits, you will ride the ferry across Mobile Bay to Dauphin Island and visit the Dauphin Island Sea Lab. There you can learn about the science of the sea.  The Five Rivers Sea Kayak course is a physically challenging trip that is spiced up with rich cultural opportunities.
