Outward Bound is comprised of several different programs. Although each piece is part of the larger Outward Bound Community, staff are initially hired in one location and remain there for some time. Check out the details for each program to see the right fit for you!
At Risk Youth - Year round in FL and AL, with summer courses in MN and ME, these programs serve Adjudicated and Youth-at-Risk. The majority of these courses are canoe expeditions and are generally 30 days in length. Several of the course types have a family component as well. There are many year round work opportunities. New Staff Training in the Southeast occurs in January, March, May and August. New Staff Training in MN and ME happens in May.
Urban Programs - Serving students in their communities is at the heart of our Urban Centers. Our longest running programs are in Baltimore, Philadelphia and Los Angeles with new Centers starting in San Francisco and Denver. Students are taken on shorter wilderness experiences close to home as well as a wide range of programming that occurs directly within the communities. Baltimore and Philadelphia offer New Staff training in March of each year.

Wilderness Expeditions - The legacy of Outward Bound is built on our classic expeditions - courses for students of all ages from 7 to 50 days in length. These courses are primarily offered in the summer season with some fun winter options (dogsledding, anyone?). Sea kayaking, mountaineering, sailing, canoeing, rafting, and rock climbing are a few of the activities that students can enjoy on their courses. We hire the majority of our field staff to work these programs from May through August.
Custom Programs - Outward Bound Professional (OBP) and Group Programs are combined to form this department. Working with intact groups and special populations comprise the majority of the programs we offer. Group Programs are imbedded in each of our bases and staffed from the general pool at the base. For open positions in our Professional Department, consult the current openings.
