Case Study: Earth Conservation Alliance

Client Background: Our client, Earth Conservation Corps, is an organization that is set up to help young adults learn more about the environment while preserving it in the process.

Business Situation
The Earth Conservation Corps has seventeen individual salmon corps in rural settings. The Corps was in the process of setting up their first urban salmon corps in the Northeast Portland area and they turned to Outward Bound Professional to help in the process of forming their new group.

Program Objectives
The high-level objective of the one-day custom program was to help the group begin to work effectively as an intact team as fast as possible. They wanted to create awareness and insight into three key areas in order to help improve the potential success of the team. The key areas were:

  • Building An Effective Team

  • Utilizing Team Resources

  • Taking Risks And Supporting Others In Their Risk Taking

Program Outcomes
Based upon the satisfaction survey results, Outward Bound Professional exceeded Earth Conservation Corps expectations and facilitated an insightful and fun day. Specific outcomes included:

Increased Teamwork:
Earth Conservation Corps has never been able to create an effective team as quickly. The team was able to utilize their different backgrounds and establish some common ground to share and use in building an effective team. They used this common ground to help achieve their goals.

Improved Use Of Team Resources:
The participants relied upon everyone's input to make a decision. Participants learned more quickly by using the many viewpoints of the group and brain storming to achieve a solution.

Increased Ability To Take Risks:
The group was able to take intelligent risks in a safe environment while feeling supported by their peers. This allowed them to achieve goals and gain benefits that otherwise would not be reached.

What the client said

"In a short amount of time, by using Outward Bound Professional, the team began to trust each other, respect individuals, and challenge themselves. It was great to see how quickly they were able to rely upon each other for help and offer support!"
