How We Do It

Ecuador — Cotopaxi

This Leadership Expedition takes you to the Andes where you develop and refine your mountaineering skills so that you can climb and lead in a high-alpine environment. With focus on acclimatization, risk management and Situational Leadership we'll test ourselves on smaller peaks such as Rucu Pichincha and Cayambe then make a summit push for the prize, Cotopaxi at 19,340 ft.

The Expedition:

Between our mountaineering missions, we will shift our focus to planning and preparation, while staying at century old haciendas. The blend of culture and collaboration will take your Leadership skill to the next level. Our seminars will be held between each mountain, each time building on skills you have mastered, and focusing on skills you have yet to attain.

As soon as you step off the plane, you will notice the altitude as Quito sits at 9,350 ft, yet is filled with palm trees. This city has been described as where the old meets new, where its historical, cultural, and contemporary heritage makes it one of the world wonders. In 1979, UNSECO declared Quito's historic center a World Heritage Site, the first city in the world to receive the accolade. In 2004 Quito was named the Cultural Capitol of the Americas.

And imagine back in the late 1800's as Edward Whymper and his colleagues made their annual forays into the high country here, they had no idea that they were stepping into mountaineering history as some of the first climbers to find alpine terrain directly on the Equator at over 15,000 ft.

Whether our group is exploring the history of the area, the local scenery or preparing for our climb, we'll ask, "What defines Leadership?" In this most unique setting, we will test both our mental and physical flexibility and determination. The terrain lends itself well to multiple days in a mountaineering environment, with time for reflection and assessment afterwards in some of the most remote and beautiful places on earth.
