The Student Opportunity Fund provides partial tuition support to students in need of financial assistance. The average scholarship award is 30% of the course tuition and awards typically do not exceed 50% of the course tuition. Scholarships awards are first-come first-served and applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
To Apply
Step 1: Read the Scholarships Policies and Frequently Asked Questions pages thoroughly prior to submitting your application.
Step 2: Apply for an Outward Bound course.
Call 866-820-9577 and an Admissions Advisor will assist you in selecting a course. Please indicate your interest in scholarship assistance at the time of enrollment.
We require a $100 Application Fee to hold your spot on course. You will be asked to complete a brief Health History Questionnaire. (Non-scholarship applicants are required to pay either a $400 tuition deposit or the full balance of the course tuition in order to enroll.
Scholarship Deadlines: Applicants are encouraged to apply early, as scholarships are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Submitting an application 2-3 months before the course start date increases the likelihood of receiving a scholarship. We do not accept scholarship applications within 3 weeks of the course start date or on courses that have a waitlist.
Step 3: Receive your Scholarship Application.
Upon completion of the steps above, Outward Bound will send you an email with links to your Scholarship Application, Course Information, and an Outward Bound Application (medical paperwork to return).
If you indicated at the time of enrollment that you were applying for scholarship, but did not receive the scholarship application, please contact the Scholarship Program immediately.
Step 4: Submit your complete Scholarship Application.
The Scholarship Application requires detailed financial information from the applicant (student going on course). If the applicant is under 21 or not self-supporting, financial information for both parents is also required. In the case of divorced parents, we ask for information for both the primary and the secondary residences. In addition, before the Scholarship Committee can review the application we also require a copy of the applicant's (and/or parent/guardian(s)) most recent Federal Tax Return(s) (1040 Tax Form and associated Schedules and Forms).
