The Pinnacle Program serves those budding leaders who can benefit most from the kind of empowering experience Outward Bound provides, but who otherwise would have the least possibility of participating due to social and economic disadvantage. At the cornerstone of this program, are partnerships with youth-serving agencies that provide local mentorship before and after the Outward Bound experience.
Founded in 1992, the Pinnacle Scholarship Program serves low-income, high-potential youth ages 14-18. Each scholar receives full-tuition support, gear for course, mentoring, and community service and leadership opportunities as a part of the scholarship. Students attend either 14- or 22-day wilderness courses across the United States. Each student is expected to use the growth that he/she experiences on course to make an impact in his/her own local community upon returning home. To date, the Pinnacle Program has served close to 3,000 students through one hundred local youth-serving agencies and continues to grow.
