Sharing my story!
When I was 31, I went through a very difficult relationship breakup. My friends all knew I was extremely sad and lonely. One day, my best friend (who I used to wilderness camp with as a kid) sent me a link to an Outward Bound trip in Colorado. I thought, this is crazy, but I should totally do this! And from that point on, my life changed forever . . .
I connected with all of the wonderful people on my trip, but especially the guides. They were amazing. I yearned to be free like they were. At this point, I felt like something was painfuly missing in my life - I was working in a cubicle all day, and only had time for active outings on the weekends. I spoke with my guide Sandra (she's my friend on FaceBook now!) about how I was feeling and had a serious breakthrough on that trip in the beautiful mountains of Colorado. I wanted to leave the corporate world and be a guide!
After returning from my Outward Bound trip, I immediately set out on a quest to research every active travel company located in the states. Two years later, I was ready to change my life and accepted a job as an guide with Backroads. I had so much support from friends and family, and it felt good to sell almost everything I owned (including my vehicle)! I guided in Yosemite to start and later was moved to the Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks area in Wyoming. I fell in love with the Tetons, moved to Jackson Hole at the start of winter 2007 and have been here ever since.
My freedom is so important to me. I am living my life here, and loving every minute of it! I work part-time as a mountain bike guide in the summer for TMBT in the Tetons, live in the coolest log cabin studio apartment, have my own radio show, stood on top of the Grand Teton, snowboard some of the best terrain in the world and am the proud owner of my very own consulting business. Thanks Outward Bound for helping me find my path in life!
I will forever be grateful to your organization and your mission of changing lives :)
