Bay Area Youth Leadership Corps Expeditions

What are the dates of the Bay Area Youth Leadership Corps Expedition?

July 31 2009 - August 13, 2009

Where does the course start and end?

Outward Bound Bay Area Center
1539 Pershing Drive
San Francisco, Ca 94129

What is the course all about?

This fourteen day backpacking expedition takes place in the Sierra Nevada of Eastern California. The Sierras are filled with smooth granite domes and cliffs, cool alpine lakes, and lush meadows. The rugged and beautiful Sierra Nevada Mountains provide an inspiring Outward Bound backpacking experience in an area that naturalist and explorer John Muir called the Range of Light. Even at night, under the moon the land is glowing with the beauty of the light. This course is designed for rising sophomores and juniors that are looking to improve their understanding of leadership, who are interested in a challenge, and are open to learning skills that will offer the lifelong benefits and perspective that only wilderness travel with Outward Bound can offer. "Expedition-style" means that you will leave base camp on the first or second day of your course and not return to it until the end of the course. You will travel with all the food and equipment you need to conduct your expedition: stoves, tents, food, etc. Your group might occasionally sleep at the same campsite twice, but generally you will be moving to a new campsite every night as you hike along your expedition route. Gaining competence by learning wilderness skill sets means you will head home empowered and inspired. Let the mountains teach you about your strengths and gain perspective on life, living and the outdoors.

Details on the program:
