Outward Bound Veterans courses are open to active duty servicemembers and veterans of all conflicts who have deployed or have been stationed overseas as a part of their service.

Priority will be given to veterans and active duty servicemembers who have not participated on an Outward Bound Veterans course in the past or who have since re-deployed. If you have previously attended an Outward Bound Veterans course, and have not since been redeployed, you will be placed on standby status.

Financial aid is available based on need and motivation and awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Select yes to receive an application for financial aid from the Outward Bound School offering your course. In the event you do not qualify for financial aid and need to withdraw your application, Outward Bound will refund your full deposit submitted with this application.

Do you plan to use a 529 College Savings Plan to cover course costs?

You can use your 529 College Savings Plan to pay for your Outward Bound expedition through Western State Colorado University's Extended Studies program. You do not have to be a current Western State Colorado University student.

Do you intend to use an AmeriCorps Education Award to cover course costs?

You can use your AmeriCorps Education Award to pay for an Outward Bound expedition. We accept AmeriCorps awards through Western State Colorado University's Extended Studies program. You do not have to be a current Western State Colorado University student.

Deposit/Cancellation Acknowledgements

To reserve a spot on course, a deposit (listed below) is required at this time. This deposit is applied to the total cost of your course and includes a $150 non-refundable application processing fee. The remaining deposit is refundable if you withdraw your application more than 90 days before the course start date. Outward Bound will refund your full deposit, including the $150 non-refundable application processing fee if: you are waitlisted and a spot on the course does not become available; you need to withdraw your application because you did not qualify for financial aid; or Outward Bound cancels your course. Outward Bound will retain your full deposit, including the $150 non-refundable application processing fee if you withdraw your application less than 90 days before the course start date.

With the generous gifts of donors, courses are offered at no cost to veterans and active duty service members. This includes tuition and travel required to and from the course start location. Due to the expense of planning, staffing and provisioning crews, Outward Bound cannot recover expenses in the event of short-notice cancellations. There are no penalties or cancellation fees in the event an applicant receives orders to deploy and cannot attend course. Applicants will be charged a $250 cancellation fee if they cancel less than 30 days before the course start date for reasons other than deployment. If Outward Bound has already purchased travel for the course, applicants will also be charged the total cost of travel.

To reserve a spot on the course waitlist, a deposit (listed below) is required at this time. This deposit is applied to the total cost of your course and includes a $150 non-refundable application processing fee. If a spot on the course does not become available, Outward Bound will refund your full deposit, including the $150 non-refundable application processing fee submitted with this waitlist application. If a spot becomes available, you will have 24 hours to decide to take the open spot. If you elect not to take the open spot or withdraw your waitlist application, Outward Bound will retain your $150 application processing fee.

Within two to three business days of submitting this application, you will receive a registration email from your Outward Bound course advisor. This email will include additional paperwork you'll be required to complete, to hold your spot on the course. Your ability to participate on course is contingent upon receiving accurate and complete paperwork within the timelines provided. Please contact your Outward Bound course advisor if you will need additional time to complete your required paperwork.
