This course is designed for the intermediate to advanced resort skier who is looking for a new challenge away from the hustle and bustle. You will spend a day or two at a local ski area before heading into the beautiful Three Sisters Wilderness for several days of introduction to various snow sports and winter camping and safety.

No two Outward Bound expeditions are ever quite the same. Every crew is unique; every route is distinct; and every adventure is dynamic. But one thing remains the same. On each course, students rise to meet exhilarating natural challenges in some of the country’s wildest places – and find strength and determination along the way.
The crew will start with the basics at a local ski area and camp at base camp while getting to know each other. The route and activities will vary based on group ability and experience. This course includes instruction and practice in:
Quench your thirst for adventure. This short but intense course provides an introduction to the Outward Bound experience, reminding students of their connection to nature, pushing them to their limits in the quiet winter woods and leaving them feeling inspired to take on real challenges in life after course. Through this condensed experience, students become more comfortable living and working together in the wilderness while practicing the values of Outward Bound. These learnings transfer easily back home, where students can build upon them and continue to grow and develop after course as they reflect on their unforgettable experience.
The volcanoes of the Central Cascades offers some of the best beginner backcountry ski terrain, weather and snow conditions of anywhere in the country. Volcanoes dot the spine of the Cascade Mountains, rising up to over 10,000 feet above the forests, lakes and rivers of the Central Cascades. These glaciated peaks run north and south and create perfect ski mountaineering objectives. This range is home to the Three Sisters (North, Middle and South Sisters), Broken Top, Mt. Washington, Three Fingered Jack and Mt. Jefferson. Four 10,000-foot glaciated volcanoes are present in this course area with a total of nine major volcanoes.
